New Amsterdam Winter Wednesday #135 Date: January 18, 2006             Start: Front St. and South St.             Pre-lube: Heartland Brewery             On-in: Jeremy’s             Hares: Fuck Me I’m Gay (FMIG) and Kerry             (Virgin) Scribe: Jenn FMIG’s co-hare actually showed up this time which was a good thing because he needed to break his “Manhattan curse”. He succeeded with a super-secret unmarked beer check!   As a slow and dumb pack whore I can’t provide the exact details on where the trail went. One check was at the Wall St bull. We were in the WTC Path Station when I saw a check and spotted an arrow that a blind man on crutches could have beaten me to. I loudly and proudly shouted “on-on”. Don Wannabe was cumming up from behind and snidely commented “did you mean…ON-ONE?”   The check on Chambers St. was where the fun began. Cries of “The Patriot” were heard far and wide. Eventually Dave B., Steamer, Eric (Alaska guy), and me somehow became the FRBs while the arrow that “falsely” maneuvered everyone else into the Patriot led to a surprise beer check. Whom do you ask paid for the beer? Why it was our very own Sideshow Bob and Flaccido Domingo who I later heard were “doing an interview” (?) at the bar when the hashers came in. The four of us continued, with Eric diligently marking the trail and almost getting arrested when a security guard spotted him marking in front of the federal plaza building. No big surprises for the remainder of the trail.   I volunteered myself for the first down-down...

{mosimage}New Amsterdam Winter Wednesday #133 Run #: 133 Date: Dec 21, 2005 Start: Dewey’s Flatiron on 5th Ave. btw 25th and 26th On-in: Plug Uglies on 3rd Ave. btw 20th and 21st Hare(s): Tim and Assglider (with adult supervision from Danny) Scribe: Tim Virgins and virgin hares share common concerns as the big event approaches: Will there be pain? Will it take too long? Will I be doing it by myself – again? Will we cross trails? Unfortunately all these fears, and more, were realized on first trail. The pain started before the trail was even set. As a result of showing off 8 minute-something times at 15K races every weekend, Assglider was limping around like a 40 year-old point guard, and was near-useless at setting trail. At one point we walked so slowly that we seemed to go backwards in time, which explains how Steva ended up running last week’s FMIG’s trail for 2 miles. In fact, the on-in seemed vaguely familiar too… Assglider came to around 14th street, which is why Irving Plaza was the best marked part of the trail. Frankly, we didn’t expect many hashers would show up due to the transit strike, but were surprised to have a pretty decent turnout. Since everyone – everyone except us, since we drove in – was going to get most of their exercise just getting to the pre-lube, it made sense to us to have at least 4 checks and 3 back-checks on trail. Most potential on-ins were booked for Christmas parties where people actually pay full price and spend money. We were close to having an...

New Amsterdam Winter Wednesday Hash House Harrier Write-ups Run #: 111 Date: Nov 10, 2004 Start: Hooter’s at Broadway and 56th Street On-in: Jake’s Dilemma on Amsterdam between 80th and 81st Hare(s): Ewa and Steve Scribe: Danny I’ve been bad about exercise of late. There is a litany of excuses of course, but it boils down to not making the time and effort. So of course when one is out of shape and the weather is getting cold, what can you do? I hashed! The temperature was in the 40’s and it was long past twilight when my co-worker and I showed up at the nominal start, Hooter’s at Broadway and 56th Street. We went inside to warm our eyes (funny but there were a bunch of male hashers inside, but none of the women…) and after drinking a two dollar pint of American beer, we headed outside for the run. My lungs in anticipation of the coming stress, immediately began to tighten up. After zigging over to 6th Avenue my lungs were wheezing and my muscles were seezing. Despite the physical stress of running in the cold, my mind began to relax as we entered Central Park. Now hashing in Central Park at night is never easy. Unless the hares are very careful about placing marks close to a light source, finding the trail can be an ordeal. And this was no exception. Specially since we have gotten out of the habit of looking for flour on trail. But there it was on the bridal path and off we went. Now once we hit the park I could...

Three mystery hares and noone set the trail: John Haldi and two female beer checks. This trail was blessed by several natural events. I would say we almost had a theme though not the Wild West Shootout advertised. Natural and supernatural. (natural being natural and supernatural being pubs, outside and in of course, as usual) The start was at Flannery’s on the cross street of 14th and 7th – bags where half heartedly left on the corner, hashers feeling certain they were only to be dragged back in. 50/100 No, not 50 bags. Trail went South although Mean Jean swore she saw marks to the north, the next recognizable stop being many many miles later after all the classical west village wiggles which somehow seem to have gotten straightened out was, approached from the southeast, Down the Hatch, where with the greatest of pleasure we met with a virgin offering some very delicious cold dark beer, and then after that, just in case, water. So, for the nature theme, I swear our hare drew an arrow across the street, probably Washington Street, into some trees with flowers under them, colorful mind you, in the middle of the night, and then, that over, another arrow back across the street. Bar theme: 2nd stop – Flannery’s – techila or Johnnie Walker shots – those who didn’t know the difference missed out and our two hosts were stuck with at least ten shots, which , word has it, they dispatched all by themselves. Up nine blocks to 23rd and a carpeted lovely 2nd floor Irish bar next to the Masonic Lodge –...
